Right at the edge of the Mugello, a few steps from Florence and easily reachable by bus, there is one of the most popular parks in Tuscany. The park of Pratolino that we all know for the magnificent statue of the Apennines.

But why was such an isolated place chosen for its construction?

The park was built by the Grand Duke Francesco I de'Medici to give vent to his passion for alchemy, but also to have a place where he could spend the days in the company of his lover, Bianca Cappello.

The place rich in water, the dominant element in the park and surrounded by a thick mixed forest, was ideal for representing the alchemical concepts that are remembered in every building and cave still present in the park, created by the grand-ducal architect and sculptor, Giambologna.

We will discover all the meanings and allegories of this park by walking through its paths and streets enjoying the splendid view of Florence and the fresh air outside the city center.
